By using RFID to detect asset locations, hospitals can make it easy for staff to find the closest needed equipment. This visibility also makes it easier to identify idle assets, thereby avoiding unnecessary asset purchases. Such tracking could also increase the utility of the FDA's Unique Device Identifier (UDI) requirement for tracking medical devices.
